Florence, South Carolina

Leading Canadian belt manufacturer announces plans to relocate manufacturing operations in Florence County

The Florence County Economic Development Partnership (FCEDP) is pleased to announce that Dunline Rubber Products Co., the world’s leading producer of endless rubber preshrinking belts, has selected Lake City as the new home of their manufacturing operations. Dunline, who currently operates a facility outside London, Ontario will create 20-25 new jobs and make a capital investment of over $1.6 million.

Dunline cited economic conditions, manufacturing changes, and market trends as reasons for prompting their decision to look at other global locations for a new manufacturing facility. The company conducted an extensive search of potential communities before deciding on Florence County. “We found exactly what we wanted in Lake City,” stated Carl Hannigan, President of Dunline, “a great location with excellent transportation infrastructure, a fantastic labor pool, and a community that welcomed us with open arms. Chairman Smith and the FCEDP staff were instrumental in making our project a reality.  The cumulative responsiveness and commitment from all parties involved made our decision very easy.”

“Manufacturers continue to find the Pee Dee region a competitive location to do business,” said Senator Yancey McGill. “Our available skilled labor force, pro-business climate, transportation infrastructure, proximity to the port of Charleston, and overall quality of life are all positive attributes that can affect a company’s bottom line. I’m pleased to welcome Dunline as our newest corporate citizen.”

“Dunline manufactures endless rubber pre-shrinking belts which can be used to extend the life of manufacturing equipment. The company’s decision to locate in South Carolina demonstrates that the state’s skilled workforce, business-friendly climate, and access to markets are working to attract investments and jobs throughout the state. Thanks to the team efforts of state and local officials, Lake City will benefit from this investment,” said Joe Taylor, Secretary of Commerce.

Dunline industrial rubber products have been produced since 1938 and are currently sold in 82 countries.   Belts manufactured in Lake City will be used on compressive shrinking machines (sanforizers) that prevent textile fabrics from shrinking when washed. The Dunline name is renowned for excellence in quality, durability, and customer service.

Florence County Council Chairman K.G. “Rusty” Smith stated, “It’s exciting to see growth and development from all corners of the countyDunline is a proven leader in its field that will provide quality jobs for the residents of Lake City. We have thoroughly enjoyed assisting them in their location, and look forward to a long and successful partnership.”

Renovations on a 65,000 square foot facility in Lake City will take place over the coming months. Full production is expected to begin in August of 2008. The company is looking for employees who are self-starters that focus on safety, quality-conscious, and interested in a unique opportunity to work and grow with a world leader in a specialized niche market.

“Today’s announcement is a prime example of what can be accomplished when everyone is working toward a common goal,” said Dr. Charles Gould, Chairman of FCEDP. “On behalf of the Partnership, I would like to thank Florence County, the City of Lake City, the South Carolina Department of Commerce and their Canadian office, the South Carolina Employment Security Commission, ReadySC, and the Pee Dee Council of Governments business and industry liaison. Without the support of Florence County Progress, Inc., and our many allies, we would not be able to bring quality companies like Dunline to Florence County.”
